KULTURHAUS

ARCH 306 / APR. 2014

A spatially dynamic community “KulturHaus” or community center that would help foster innovation, and community development in Chicago’s Garfield Park. The building features a single path that winds and spirals up on the site to meet and connect to the adjacent elevated rail station on Lake Street. The single path contains multiple art galleries, meeting spaces, and classrooms placed to allow for maximum spatial and social interaction among the users. The spiral continues up and over the tracks to create a visible landmark and a “hybrid” elevated skate park.

For the Third Year Model Competition I created a 17 ft. long unwrapped “panoramic” model of the spiral of the building and attached it to the wall. The model was selected as a finalist.
